When Richard Durrant was eight, he would take the Number 26 bus from his council estate in Brighton to his weekly guitar lessons. His guitar took him to Paraguay, at first in his dreams but eventually in reality. His hero is Agustin Barrios, a virtuoso guitarist known for his tremolo.
Richard Durrant opened the Welsh Proms at St David's Hall on Friday with pieces by Barrios and stories about his own career told in an entertaining cockney style. After Richard had performed a very successful concert of Barrios's work in a concert hall in Paraquay, he came out on the street to see a Number 26 bus pulled up at the bus stop.
